our own post-completion pinup to celebrate the completion of The Black SchoolHouse, an art and community center in New Orleans’ 7th Ward that we designed in collaboration with Shani Peters and Joseph Cuillers, founders of The Black School, with Whawn Allen Architects & Construction Consultants WAACC of New Orleans, and with the 7th Ward community.
The Black Schoolhouse is an experimental school focused, in their own words, on ‘teaching Black/PoC students and allies to become radical agents of change’ through art and creative fields at large. Five upcycled shipping containers form the main volume of the building and are sited on the triangular lot to support a tight connection with the street and street life, and with the garden and grounds that expand on two sides.
In our pinup we show the collaborative process of design, community engagement, contruction, and the amazing celebratory opening event that brought us together once again.
we celebrated here at our studio with DJ Sour !!!
